On the Road in Romania 1996
I was motorcycling around Europe in 1996 when I read about a group of bikers riding from Berlin to Nicosia, Cyprus. Berlin was now no longer divided and Nicosia was the last divided city in Europe. To say it was a bit of a mess traveling with 86 other bikers from various countries, some with their kids, all with their prejudices, being the only American, was to put it lightly. For example, the person that drove, that is correct, drove the route, to see if it could be done in time, did not take in just how long it takes for 86 bikes to be fueled let alone how more often than a car, that needs to happen. Anyway, I got some incredible photos. This is a Roma on the side of the road. Check out the shoes. Sue tells me these are Opinci. This was not my last time motorcycling in Romania and was actually the second time. the first was two years earlier with Sue on the bike. As I scan my old travel photos from all the years we traveled on the bikes, I will post more of them.
