Since Day 1, if you ever have a problem, you can reach us 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. But to be clear, that does not mean someone is sitting around waiting to see your email or call, but it means we check emails often every day and will reply every day when we can, meaning if we are not engaged in life! The Warm & Safe Story

Warm & Safe was born out of pure necessity. Back in the winter of 1993 company founder and world traveler Mike Coan found himself uncomfortable and cold while motorcycle touring through the Vosges Mountains between Germany and France. The multiple layers he was wearing were bulky and were simply not enough to keep him warm. This would lead to his first encounter with heated riding gear. At that time, such gear was extremely limited, unreliable and in some cases, dangerous. After purchasing some for himself, it was clear that the designers were not riders and there was room for improvement in many areas.

The Heat-Troller™ is Born

The first heated riding gear used mechanical switches for heat control. These crude, controllers were dangerous, inefficient and required the heated gear to be significantly insulated to function. Mike Coan, owning a high end custom cable and connector company, was confident he could do better. Although he honestly only wanted something for himself, his tight knit group of friends and family, riders themselves, convinced him there was a demand. This simple, personal custom Heat-troller project became an engineered, in-house run of 500 solid state controllers designed by Mike and his close friend Don, built using off the shelf parts and with the soldering skills of a friend's wife. After significant online sales, Mike quickly found himself manufacturing the Heat-Troller for the 2 major heated gear manufacturers.

Over 25 years later, the design has constantly progressed and been refined, new models have been developed, durability increased, and the Heat-Troller remains the industry leader in heated gear control performance. Nothing else comes close. 

Warm & Safe™ Heated Gear is Born

When your wife is a professional sports garment designer at Nike and you're not satisfied with the heated jackets and vests available, it's a no brainer to have her put together something better for you. It is clear Susan's skill and experience has brought new innovations, improved materials, designs, and the highest levels of safety to the heated garment industry. As you can tell by our attention to detail, when a designer actually uses the gear being developed, the potential for improvements and innovations is both maximized and realized.

Commitment to Quality and Customers

From the beginning, Warm & Safe has been all about constant improvement, quality, and honesty. Where others have focused efforts on marketing and cheaper manufacturing, we have continued to maintain/improve quality products while constantly innovating and improving.

Over the years, the market has grown and it is currently saturated with many poor quality heated garments. While a little competition is healthy, sadly, some of what's available are poorly constructed counterfeit copies of our own older stuff based on stolen designs. Although we have to admit this makes us a little salty, we understand that combating this problem is losing battle. Instead, we have simply maintained our focus on quality materials and quality control. Consider that when you're on the road and the temperature is dropping, reliability and performance are what really matter. We still have customers using 20+ year old gear without issue.

We feel that it's important that our customers know we have their backs. We are always here for them if they accidentally damage a product or component, it can be repaired or replaced with gear compatible with the rest of the gear they already own. All of the original 3 Heated Gear manufacturers that existed when Warm & Safe began, though many were bought and sold several times, have gone out of business. We've seen the same pattern where investment groups inject money and "revitalize" these brands but unfortunately the companies and products have no connection with the original companies other than owning the brand licensing. The "new" products, often the same cheaply made and poor quality gear as mentioned above with their branding on it, are not backwards compatible with previous gear. We've seen complaints that they refuse to honor even "lifetime warranties" on previous versions of their gear because the new owners weren't the ones who made it...all while claiming they have X number of years of history because they own the brand.
