If you have a Heat-troller made before the Version Xtreme then it is time to not worry about a problem but to usse our Trade Up Program to get a new Heat-troller.
1. Reverse Polarity. This can happen to the smartest guys and the biggest shops. I even did it. It is a very easy problem to diagnose because the primary LED will be the oppisite color it should be and will stay on solid at all settings. So if the primary should be Red then the fault color will be Yellow and not flash.
You can do a visual check, simply go to the plus post of the battery and take the wire from the battery harness in your hand. Run your hand up the wire and see that the fuse holder is attached to that wire. If not then you have the harness on backwards.
2. Gear not getting hot. We now have different Heat-trollers but most have the same issues in common. People think the Heat-troller is faulty and it turns out to be a number of other things. here is a list and use it to check your own situation.
- Battery harness not hooked up to the battery. We see this a lot after the bike is worked on and the shop does not put the battery harness back on right.
- The BMW adapter made by some other company has come apart inside. We see this a lot because the screws that hold the wires in place back out with the vibration of the bike. we fill the whole connector with potting so that can't happen but others do not.
- Make sure you are plugged in to the correct main liner plug in the left side hand pocket.
- If you are using the remote control heat-troller, make sure you have synced the units, have fresh batteries in the remote.
3. Gear Getting hot and no control over it.

4. The Heat-troller stays on full even when turned off and the LED stays on dim or may flash when the Heat-troller is turned off.
- On the Mounted Heat-troller, the board that holds the switch can get covered with road grime and soap to the point where, if it gets wet, there is enough resistance between the solder points that a connection is made. Solution is to take Radio Shack Color Tuner Cleaner or alcohol and a toothbrush and clean the solder side of the board really well. Then cover the solder points with either dielectric grease or a spray poly-urethan designed for electronics.
5. The knob turns too easily or is too hard to turn.
- You need to adjust the resistance of the knob against the o-ring under it. Using the set screw in the knob, loosen it and if it is rotating too easily, press down on the knob and retighten the screw. If rotating too hard then take the knob off, using the screw driver to pry the o-ring up the shaft a little, then replace and tighten the knob, adjusting the pressure as you need to get the rotation ease you want.
